How to Sell at Alex Cooper’s
Alex Cooper’s provides the most effective platform for the sale of your fine and decorative arts. Our auctions bring maximum returns for your property by combining personal service and the latest marketing strategies. Alex Cooper’s conducts two types of auctions:
  1. Nationally advertised Decorative and Fine Arts Auctions - Main Gallery sales conducted approximately every six weeks including furniture, clocks, paintings, decorations, porcelain and glass, jewelry, silver, oriental rugs and collectibles.
  2. North Gallery auctions - Held the day after or staggered in between Main Gallery sales. North gallery auctions, generally, are more moderately priced items and include reproduction and decorative furniture, paintings and prints, decorations, porcelain and glass, rugs and collectibles. Valuations
Prior to accepting consignments, an Alex Cooper representative would examine your property to provide you with an idea of its fair market value and its salability at auction. There are several ways in which to obtain a free verbal valuation.
  1. Email images and descriptions
    Send small format (under 200kb) digital photos to antiques@alexcooper.com. Please include as many details as possible, such as size, markings and provenance.
  2. Mail photographs and descriptions
    You are welcome to mail photos to our gallery, 908 York Road, Towson, MD 21204. Please include your address and phone number, and as much detail as possible on the item(s).
  3. Bring in your property for valuation
    A more accurate valuation results from seeing the item(s) first hand. One of our representatives would be happy to meet with you in our gallery and provide a free pre-sale estimate. Please phone ahead to schedule an appointment.
  4. Meet an acquisitions specialist on-site

Consignments
Alex Cooper’s acts as agent in the sale of your property. Prior to consigning at Alex Cooper’s, our representative will provide you with detailed consignment terms along with a formal consignment contract for your review. For our services, we receive a percentage of the sale price, known as a commission, as well as marketing and other applicable charges. Standard charges included a consignor’s commission, advertising charge, and applicable hauling charges. While consignors are responsible for the delivery of property to our gallery, Alex Cooper’s can provide names of reputable packers and shippers and oversee the process.

Professional cataloguing and extensive marketing expose your items to the largest possible venue. Alex Cooper’s advertising campaign includes local and national publications, direct mail, periodic television ads, and extensive internet exposure. Alex Cooper’s has developed a loyal following throughout its four generations in the auction business. Prior to main gallery auctions, a multi-day exhibition is open to the public, allowing maximum exposure of your property. Auction catalogues are available for free on our website or for sale in our gallery during the exhibition and sale.

Payment
Payment by check, along with a full detailed accounting of each lot’s sale price and itemized charges, will be sent approximately three weeks after the auction. If applicable, an accounting of unsold items will be sent approximately one week post-auction. You, the consignor, are responsible for arranging removal of unsold property or contacting our gallery to discuss other means of handling your property.
