Alex Cooper is pleased to be auctioning the remarkable art collection of the Estate of Anne Hopkins of Bel Air, MD.  This impressive collection was largely formed by her grandfather, Thomas Howard Fitchett (1873-1953) who owned a factory in Glen Arm fabricating machinery for manufacturing corrugated cardboard.  Years of family lore have it that Mr. Fitchett acquired many pieces from the sale of the Vanderbilt Collection.  Of note, in this collection we have the four volume, leather bound, rare book portfolio “Mr. Vanderbilt’s House & Collection” from 1883-1884, lot 1328, adding some credibility to the family story. Ms. Hopkins’ father, Gordon Stick, also a collector, was charged with the care and keeping of the collection. Upon her passing, this historical collection has now been entrusted to Alex Cooper to place the works with a new generation of collectors.

Lot 1328, 19th Century. "Mr. Vanderbilt's House & Collection"

The collection presents a who’s who of 18th and 19th century American and Continental Art.  Collectors of European Art will be thrilled to see works by Camille Jean-Baptiste Corot, lot 1241, Narcisse Virgile Diaze de la Pena, lot 1239, a Portrait of a Lady attributed to Thomas Gainsborough, lot 1249,  Jules Dupre, lot 1220, and many more.
